Privacy Policy

Effective: May 16, 2026 · Last updated: May 16, 2026

KinLink ("KinLink," "we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the KinLink mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service"). Please read this policy carefully. If you disagree with its terms, please discontinue use of the Service.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

  • Account information: Email address and password when you create an account.
  • Profile information: Display name and profile photo (optional).
  • Check-in content: Text notes and photos you share during check-in responses.
  • Place information: Names and locations of Places you create in the app.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Location data: Precise GPS location collected when geo-fence events occur, when check-ins are submitted, and when the live map is accessed by a paired Guardian. For Dependent accounts, location is collected in the background to enable geo-fence alerts.
  • Device information: Device type, operating system version, unique device identifiers, and mobile network information.
  • Usage data: App features used, screens viewed, and interaction patterns (collected via PostHog analytics).
  • Log data: IP address, access times, pages viewed, and crash reports.

1.3 Children Under 13 (COPPA)

KinLink is not directed to children under 13 years old, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. Guardian accounts are intended for adults (18 or older) who manage the pairing process. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13 without appropriate consent, contact us immediately at support@kinlinkapp.com and we will delete that information.

1.4 Teens Ages 13–17 (Dependents)

Teenagers ages 13 and older may use KinLink as Dependents under the direct supervision of a Guardian (parent or legal guardian). A Dependent account requires active pairing initiated and approved by a Guardian. Guardians are responsible for ensuring their use of KinLink with minor Dependents complies with applicable law, including any state-specific laws governing minor monitoring.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Operate and provide the KinLink Service, including geo-fence alerts, check-in functionality, and the live map.
  • Authenticate your account and maintain the security of pairings between Guardians and Dependents.
  • Send push notifications for geo-fence events, check-in requests, and service updates.
  • Analyze aggregated, anonymized usage patterns to improve the app.
  • Respond to support requests and communications.
  • Comply with legal obligations.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information to data brokers or third parties for advertising. We share your information only as follows:

  • With paired family members: Location data, check-in content, and activity events are shared with Guardians and Dependents who are actively paired within your family group, as the core function of the Service.
  • Service providers: We use third-party vendors who process data on our behalf (cloud hosting, analytics, email delivery). These vendors are contractually prohibited from using your data for their own commercial purposes.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights or safety of any person.
  • Business transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or substantially all of our assets, your information may be transferred. We will notify you before such a transfer takes effect.

4. Data Retention

We retain your account data and location history for as long as your account is active. Activity logs (check-ins, geo-fence events) are retained for 90 days by default. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting support@kinlinkapp.com. Upon verified account deletion requests, we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by applicable law or for legitimate business purposes such as fraud prevention.

5. Location Data

Location is the core data type used by KinLink. For Dependent users, KinLink requests "Always On" location permission to enable background geo-fence monitoring. You may revoke this permission in your device settings at any time; however, doing so will disable geo-fence alerts and Places Mesh functionality.

Location data is transmitted using TLS encryption and stored in encrypted form. Access to raw location data is restricted to authorized systems and personnel. We do not share precise location data with advertising networks or data brokers.

6. Your Privacy Rights

6.1 California Residents (CCPA / CPRA)

California residents have the right to: (a) know what personal information we collect and how it is used; (b) request deletion of their personal information; (c) request correction of inaccurate personal information; (d) opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we do not sell personal information); and (e) non-discrimination for exercising these rights. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@kinlinkapp.com.

6.2 All Users

Regardless of location, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us. We will respond to verified requests within 30 days.

7. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+), encrypted storage, access controls, and periodic security reviews. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information. In the event of a data breach affecting your rights, we will notify you as required by applicable law.

8. Third-Party Services

The Service integrates with third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy:

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. For material changes, we will notify you by email or prominent in-app notice at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
